Declaring "I refuse to be bullied," Kelly Clarkson has lashed out at veteran music executive Clive Davis over comments made in his new memoir.
Davis claims Kelly broke into "hysterical sobbing" when he demanded "Since U Been Gone" be put on her album Breakaway. Kelly insists to fans in an open letter that Davis is confusing songs and stories. She says that while she did battle, successfully, to add more guitar to "Since U Been Gone," the song she cried over was "Because of You."
She clarifies why: "I cried because he hated it and told me verbatim that I was a "s****y writer who should be grateful for the gifts that he bestows upon me." He also allegedly suggested she just "shut up and sing," which devastated her because she had felt honored to work with him.
Kelly concludes however, that she fought for the song, the label gave in and it became a worldwide hit. "He didn't put that in the book," she says. Her post also includes this bit of wisdom: "Growing up is awesome because you learn you don't have to cower to anyone -- even Clive Davis."
