Juneteenth in the Queen City: Where to Go, What to Do

Juneteenth marks the moment that enslaved people in Galveston, Texas received word of the abolishment of slavery, more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. On June 19th, we honor and celebrate the day all Black Americans became free. Check out some of the events around the Queen City that are honoring and celebrating this monumental day in American history.

Celebrate Freedom Bike Ride

  • Meet at The Spoke Easy in Elizabeth at 1pm on Saturday, June 20th.

Freedom March

  • Learn about this important day in African-American history from speakers, enjoy special performances and march to the Black Lives Matter mural on Tryon Street in Uptown. Meet at First Ward Park at 1pm ET

Juneteenth Festival of the Carolinas

  • Enjoy a three-day festival at House of Africa in Plaza Midwood. Learn more here.

Juneteenth Food Truck Rally

  • Come celebrate Juneteenth with an evening of food, music and speakers at Hornest Nest Park from 5-8pm. More info here.

Juneteenth Fundraiser for Heal Charlotte

  • Visit Brewers at 4001 Yancey from 4-8 pm. A portion of the proceeds will be given to Heal Charlotte to help fund their after school programs, plus they'll receive 100% of proceeds from 704 merchandise. Learn more here.
