Stafford Brothers offer up a dose of electricity with their new single “This Girl,” featuring Eva Simons and T.I. In the vibrant new clip, the pair enlists a larger-than-life kangaroo, glow sticks and a luscious club atmosphere to set the tone. The nearly four-minute video was directed and produced by CTRL and filmed in various Atlanta nightclubs.
“It was a really cool experience. It happened in two days,” Matt Stafford recently shared with Popdust of the music video. “On the first day, we all had just got to Atlanta and hadn't seen each other in ages. Everyone just came together and [we] all started having a few drinks and it made the club even more fun. It really turned into a party that night. Then, the next day, we were sitting in a strip club.”
On hooking up with T.I. for the track, he said, “We connected with T.I. through our management. He heard it and was like ‘I love it.’ He laid his rhyme on it, and it made the song come together perfectly.”
For Simons’ part, the R&B stylist delivers a passionate vocal that counters the more mechanical underpinnings. “Her voice is just perfect. She’s very successful in her own right and it was great to have her onboard,” Matt added.
“The song is about her being this girl. But when T.I. did his rap, it was about giving this girl one more time, giving her another night in bed,” Matt noted of the song itself. “When we were talking about it in the video, we were like, ‘well, you’re about to get married. This can be your last time, and then you get married.’ [laughs] It all came together nicely. It clicked. There was a real good vibe through the whole thing.”
Stafford Brothers recently wrapped the Asian leg of their tour, with North American dates beginning later this month on Sept. 25 in Texas.
